Today - Februrary 3

And then it was – February 3rd.

Not many will know, but this is the day when the course of Indian history changed from being a mainly pro-Indian country to a true diversified one with people and religion from all over the world, at least to some extent. Truly speaking, not only India it changed the fortune of the whole Asia.

In 1509 on February 3rd the Battle of Diu which was a naval battle was fought in the Arabian Sea near Diu, India between the Portuguese Empire and a joint fleet of Egypt, Zamorin of Calicut and the Sultan of Gujarat. A victory of the Portuguese Empire ensured their wish come true, a monopoly of control over the Indian Ocean, which was the most important region of international trade that time.

Following this, the Portuguese captured almost all the important ports from Arabian Sea which also marked the beginning of European colonial dominance in Asia and India where the Dutch and the British followed them and eventually taken over the complete ruling power.

Jai Gurudev!

Love!
