Today - February 8

February 8th.

In 1955 in Pakistan the Government of Sindh abolished the Jagirdari system in the province. One million acres (4000 sq.km.) of land which was acquired was distributed among the landless peasants of the area. Feudalism is what is known as Jagirdari in various parts of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In the time of pre-independence the British Emperor made this a lucrative business for the people who favored their rules and regulations. But this used to be a nightmare for the poor farmers who were always exploited by the Zaminders or the landlords.

No doubt it was a welcome note for the people who were on hard grounds post independence trying to make something good for their lives.

Jai Gurudev!

Love.
