Today - January 27

January 27th.

In 1951 Nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site began with a one-kiloton bomb being dropped on Frenchman Flat. Can you imagine One Kilo-Ton! And this was the first testing at this site which was specially located for nuclear detonations. For sure was not one of the better days.

But quite fortunately in 1967 on the same day more than sixty nations signed the Outer Space Treaty banning nuclear weapons in space. Among the main principles of it, one is which bars States Parties to the treaty from placing nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction in orbit of earth, in moon or in any other celestial body. Yet unfortunately many countries keep launching space ships fully loaded with nuclear elements and in few incidents they collide and spread nuclear debris in the space. In one specific case I remember only 1% of the debris was cleaned and rest of it was still rotating the earth on its orbit. Not a reason to be very hopeful again.

Jai Gurudev!

Love!
