Today - January 17

January 17.

In 1929 Popeye the Sailor Man, the famous cartoon character created by Elzie Segar, first appears in the Thimble Theatre comic strip. He is one of the funniest characters that has been ever created and made spinach an instant hit. J

Now the next is not a reason to celebrate rather to be worried about. In 2007, January17 The Doomsday clock was set to Five minutes from midnight in response to North Korea’s nuclear testing. Now this is a very interesting concept. The whole idea is to measure the time left before the destruction of the world. Initially it was a function of global nuclear threat but recently takes into account of climate changes and global warming issues also. Now each year this time varies based on if something good or bad has happened during that year. Like when India and Pakistan tested nuclear weapons in 1998 the change was -5 but in 2010 it was increased by only +1 because of the world wide cooperation to reduce nuclear arsenals and limit the effect of climate changes. No wonder, why the Copenhagen summit was not a great success.

So from now onwards make sure to do your part of good things so that we can slow down the clock.

Jai Gurudev!
Love!
